“We Have to Save Her No Matter What”: ‘Humint’ Raises the Stakes in New Trailer

The upcoming espionage thriller ‘Humint’ has entered the final stretch ahead of its release, unveiling a new trailer that sharpens both its emotional urgency and large-scale tension.

On January 22, distributor NEW released the official trailer for Humint, offering a closer look at the high risk operation at the center of the film. Set against the icy backdrop of Vladivostok, the story unfolds where secrets and truths alike are buried beneath geopolitical shadows, forcing characters with conflicting agendas into direct collision.

A montage featuring four characters: a woman in a fur coat looking contemplative in a hallway, a man gazing intensely, another man on the phone with a serious expression, and a man preparing to strike with a tool in a dimly lit space.

A Woman Caught Between Identities

At the heart of the film is Chae Seon-hwa, portrayed by Shin Se-kyung, a North Korean restaurant worker living a double life as a covert human intelligence asset. Operating in secrecy, Seon-hwa navigates a fragile existence one that begins to unravel when her true identity is exposed. The trailer emphasizes her isolation and vulnerability, framing her not merely as a spy, but as a person trapped by systems larger than herself. As danger closes in, the central question becomes clear: can she be saved, and at what cost?

Opposing Forces, One Battleground

Jo In-sung stars as Manager Jo, a black-ops agent from South Korea’s National Intelligence Service, whose mission appears driven by both duty and personal resolve. His urgency underscored by the repeated line, “We have to save her” sets the emotional spine of the trailer.

Standing on the opposite side is Park Jung-min as Park Geon, a Bo-wi-bu (North Korean State Security) operative, whose cold precision adds constant pressure. Park Hae-joon plays Hwang Chi-seong, a consul general whose presence complicates the already volatile situation, turning diplomacy into another battlefield. As Seon-hwa’s cover collapses, the trailer escalates into a series of tightly edited confrontations and action sequences, hinting at brutal, close quarters conflict rather than stylized spectacle.

Completing Ryu Seung-wan’s Overseas Trilogy

Directed by Ryu Seung-wan, Humint marks the final chapter of his unofficial overseas trilogy, following ‘The Berlin File’ (2013) and ‘Escape from Mogadishu’ (2021). Like its predecessors, the film relies on real-world locations to ground its political tension this time filmed in Latvia, standing in for Russia’s Far East. Ryu’s signature approach blending personal stakes with global politics is evident throughout the trailer, which favors sustained tension over exposition.

Release Date

With its mix of espionage, moral ambiguity, and character driven suspense, Humint positions itself as a continuation of Ryu Seung-wan’s most internationally scaled work.

‘Humint’ is scheduled to hit theaters on February 11, with the newly released trailer signaling a film less concerned with clear heroes and villains and more focused on what survival means when loyalty, identity, and humanity are all on the line.
