Netflix’s upcoming original series “As You Stood By” (written by Kim Hyo Jung, directed by Lee Jung Rim) brings the two acclaimed actresses together for the first time portraying a pair of friends bound by desperation, guilt, and survival.

A Pact of Desperation
As You Stood By follows Cho Hee Soo (Jeon So Nee) and Cho Eun Soo (Lee Yu Mi) friends who find themselves cornered by violence and circumstance. When survival becomes impossible without crossing a moral line, the two make a fatal decision: kill or be killed. What begins as an act of escape spirals into a tangled web of guilt, fear, and redemption.
The story captures the tension between loyalty and self-preservation, asking how far one would go to protect someone they love and what remains when every choice leads deeper into the dark.
Transformations in Character
For Jeon So Nee, known for emotionally grounded performances, the role of Hee Soo demanded a complete transformation. “I wanted to express the superhuman strength that surfaces when someone tries to save another person,” she said. “That instinctive energy felt painful yet deeply human.”
Lee Yu Mi, who portrays Eun Soo, delivers a raw and unflinching depiction of a domestic-abuse survivor turned reluctant accomplice. “I approached Eun Soo’s emotions with honesty,” she explained. “I didn’t want judgment, only to understand her fear and the courage behind it.”

Survival, Sin, and Redemption
According to Netflix, the series delves into the blurred line between victim and perpetrator portraying two women trapped in a cycle of violence but still searching for a sliver of hope.
A production representative described it as “a gripping story of solidarity born from despair,” praising both actresses for “bringing devastating authenticity to their roles.”
As You Stood By premieres November 7 on Netflix, releasing worldwide in multiple languages. With its chilling tone, emotional realism, and powerhouse performances, it’s set to become one of the most talked-about Korean thrillers of the year.
