A Heartwarming Reunion

In the photos, fans spotted Hyeri, Park Bo-gum, Go Kyung-pyo, Lee Dong-hwi, Kim Sung-kyun, Ra Mi-ran, Lee Il-hwa, Choi Moo-sung, Ryu Hye-young, and Lee Min-ji — many dressed in fashion styles that perfectly recreated their characters’ looks from the 1988 setting.

The cast’s reunion sparked excitement and nostalgia among fans who fondly remember the warmth, humor, and deep friendships that made Reply 1988 a cultural touchstone in Korean television.

Ryu Jun-yeol’s Absence Explained

However, Ryu Jun-yeol, who played Kim Jung-hwan — one of the series’ main leads — was notably absent from the group photos. His agency later clarified,

“Due to schedule conflicts, Ryu Jun-yeol couldn’t attend the full MT trip. However, he did participate in some portions of the 10th-anniversary filming.”

A Decade of Love for Reply 1988

First aired in November 2015, Reply 1988 ended in January 2016 after capturing the hearts of millions. The show depicted the laughter, love, and everyday lives of five families living in Ssangmun-dong during the late 1980s, achieving a record 18.8% nationwide viewership (Nielsen Korea).

The series not only launched the careers of its young cast but also led to real-life romance — Hyeri and Ryu Jun-yeol confirmed they were dating in 2017 after the drama’s success. The couple parted ways in 2023 after seven years together.

Despite the bittersweet history, the 10th-anniversary reunion serves as a reminder of how Reply 1988 remains one of Korea’s most beloved dramas, continuing to connect generations of viewers through its timeless story of family and friendship.
