A simple fan encounter has turned into a viral moment for aespa’s Karina — and the perfume brand she gifted has now stepped into the spotlight.
On November 1, a social media user posted a story saying they bumped into Karina on the street and, nervously, handed her a box of chocolate. According to the post, Karina thanked the fan and then reached into her bag to give her the perfume she was wearing. The fan wrote, “We made a hand-heart together. I used up all my luck for today.”

The post quickly triggered intense discussion online. Some fans applauded Karina’s kindness and spontaneity. Others questioned whether the story was a planned publicity move or a genuine moment. Since then, several users claimed to have seen Karina that same day along Apgujeong Rodeo Street in Seoul, with the same outfit as in the photo shared.
The perfume brand in question responded publicly to address rumors. In a comment under the viral post, the brand clarified: “This story is not an advertisement or collaboration; it’s a personal act of the artist. We thank Karina for choosing our product and sharing a warm moment with fans.”
What began as a modest “reverse gift” moment — where the fan gave the idol a chocolate and the idol returned the gesture — has turned into a case of fan-idol culture, brand dynamics, and the fine line between authentic interaction and media strategy.
Karina, widely known for her role as leader of aespa, has been taking a brief rest after the group’s Japan tour in October and is set to appear at the 2025 MAMA Awards in Hong Kong on November 29.
