KBS is preparing to launch one of its most ambitious historical dramas in years. The upcoming large-scale series “Moonmu” has officially confirmed its main cast, featuring Lee Hyun-wook, Jang Hyuk, Kim Kang-woo, Park Sung-woong, Jung Woong-in, and Jo Sung-ha — a powerhouse lineup already drawing huge attention.
Set to air in 2026, the drama aims to deliver a sweeping retelling of the battles, alliances, and political gambles that shaped the unification of the Three Kingdoms.

A Saga of Silla’s Rise to Unification
“Moonmu” chronicles how the once-small kingdom of Silla overcame the might of Goguryeo, Baekje, and eventually Tang China, culminating in the historic unification of the Korean Peninsula. The series promises an intense blend of war strategy, dynastic conflict, and the personal sacrifices of those who shaped history.
The script is written by Kim Ri-heon and Hong Jin-i, with direction by Kim Young-jo and Ko Sung-joon.
Lee Hyun-wook as Kim Beopmin: The Prince Who Becomes a Unifier
Lee Hyun-wook takes on the role of Kim Beopmin, the eldest son of Kim Chun-chu and nephew of General Kim Yu-sin.
A fierce but cold-minded strategist, Beopmin is someone who can swallow pride and endure humiliation for the sake of his nation. The drama follows his transformation from an ambitious prince to a ruler who ultimately leads Silla through its era of unification.
Jang Hyuk as Yeon Gaesomun: Goguryeo’s Ruthless Warlord
Jang Hyuk portrays Yeon Gaesomun, one of Goguryeo’s most legendary — and controversial — figures.
Known as a “god of war,” Yeon’s brilliance brought countless victories, but his authoritarian rule pushed Goguryeo toward political instability and internal darkness. Jang Hyuk’s intense charisma is expected to bring new depth to the infamous general.
Kim Kang-woo as Kim Chun-chu: A Diplomatic Genius with Hidden Ambition
Kim Kang-woo plays Kim Chun-chu, the first Silla king from the bone-rank elite.
Charming on the surface yet deeply calculating underneath, Chun-chu is a master of diplomacy who balances survival, strategy, and ambition. His political maneuvers become crucial to Silla’s rise — and to Beopmin’s future as king.
Park Sung-woong as Kim Yu-sin: The Sword of Silla
Park Sung-woong steps into the role of Kim Yu-sin, a legendary general who changed the fate of Silla.
Despite his iron military discipline, Yu-sin is portrayed as someone who never ignores the suffering of the people. Standing beside Kim Chun-chu and Kim Beopmin, he becomes their most powerful shield on the battlefield.
Jung Woong-in as Kim Jin-ju: A Sharp, Ruthless Realist
Jung Woong-in plays Kim Jin-ju, a highly skilled political operator who hides sharp ambition beneath his composed exterior.
After Bidam’s failed coup, Jin-ju becomes the most formidable rival to Kim Chun-chu and Kim Beopmin. His survival style may seem cold and selfish, but the drama presents him as one of the era’s most realistic and relatable figures.
Jo Sung-ha as Go Geon-mu: Goguryeo’s Warm-Hearted King
Jo Sung-ha portrays Go Geon-mu, a respected general who later becomes king of Goguryeo.
Determined to ease the suffering of his people, he seeks peace over conflict — but his compassionate rule makes him a target. Before Yeon Gaesomun’s coup reaches completion, Geon-mu becomes the tragic victim of political upheaval.
Premiering in 2026
With a star-studded cast and a storyline anchored in pivotal Korean history, “Moonmu” is set to become one of KBS’s most highly anticipated dramas of 2026.
Fans of epic war sagas and political thrillers are already calling it the next major historical blockbuster.
