BOYNEXTDOOR has officially proven their rising popularity in Japan. On November 21, the organizers of the 67th Japan Record Awards announced this year’s list of honorees, and the group earned the prestigious Rookie Award, marking a major milestone in their overseas presence.

Award
The Japan Record Awards, hosted annually by the Japan Composer’s Association, is one of the country’s longest-running and most respected music ceremonies. First held in 1959, the awards are considered a benchmark for artists achieving significant impact in the Japanese music market. BOYNEXTDOOR’s win reflects not only their expanding fanbase but also their growing influence in Japan’s competitive music industry.
Following the announcement, the members expressed their gratitude. “It’s an incredible honor to receive such a meaningful award,” they said. “We will continue to grow and show you even better performances.”
Strong Physical Sales and Chart Performance
BOYNEXTDOOR’s success in Japan has been backed by strong numbers. Their second Japanese single, ‘BOYLIFE,’ released in August, sold approximately 346,000 copies in its first week, a remarkable achievement for a rookie group. The single went on to secure two No. 1 spots on weekly charts (August 18–24). In September, ‘BOYLIFE’ earned a Platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of Japan, further solidifying the group’s impressive local performance.
Their Korean discography is also gaining recognition. The group’s fourth mini album ‘No Genre’ and fifth mini album ‘The Action’ both received Gold certification, demonstrating BOYNEXTDOOR’s growing support both at home and abroad.
Closing the Year With a Major Festival Appearance
BOYNEXTDOOR is set to finish their breakthrough year on a high note. They will perform on the opening day of Japan’s massive year-end music festival ‘COUNTDOWN JAPAN 25/26’, scheduled for December 27–31.
With a Rookie Award now added to their list of accomplishments, BOYNEXTDOOR continues to solidify their position as one of the most promising next-generation K-pop acts — and their momentum shows no signs of slowing.
Editor’s Insights
BOYNEXTDOOR’s Rookie Award win in Japan signals more than just early success. It reflects how quickly the group is securing a foothold in one of the most competitive and historically important music markets in Asia.
Japan has long been a key expansion point for K-pop acts, but breaking through as a rookie is never guaranteed. What makes this moment notable is the combination of strong physical sales, chart performance, and recognition from an institution like the Japan Record Awards, which traditionally values long-term impact over short-term hype.
At the same time, this achievement suggests a strategic rollout rather than accidental popularity. The group’s localized releases, consistent promotions, and timing with major festivals indicate a clear focus on building a stable Japanese fanbase early in their career.
If this trajectory continues, BOYNEXTDOOR may not just be another rising group. They are positioning themselves to become a long-term player in both the Korean and Japanese markets, which is often the defining factor between temporary buzz and sustained global growth.
