The 2025 MAMA Awards will move forward as planned in Hong Kong, though organizers have canceled the red carpet in the wake of a major local tragedy. CJ ENM confirmed on November 28 that the ceremony will still be held at Kai Tak Stadium over two days, November 28–29, despite the city reeling from a deadly apartment fire that erupted on November 26 in Tai Po District.
Local authorities have reported 83 fatalities, one of the worst fire incidents the region has seen in years. As Hong Kong grieves, CJ ENM spent the last two days reviewing whether to modify or postpone the event ultimately deciding to proceed, but with significant changes in tone and presentation.

A Ceremony That Aims to Comfort, Not Celebrate
In a formal statement, organizers explained that this year’s MAMA Awards will incorporate a message of “Support Hong Kong”, creating time during the show to honor the victims and express solidarity with affected families. Rather than the usual spectacle of bright lights and grand staging, the production will shift toward a more thoughtful, comforting atmosphere.
“MAMA will be presented with care,” CJ ENM said. “Our priority is delivering a performance that offers hope and consolation.” The decision also reflects the event’s global platform: with millions of international viewers expected, MAMA intends to share the grief of the community and contribute meaningfully through charitable support for victims.
Red Carpet Canceled, Celebrity Lineup Adjusted
The traditionally high-profile red carpet has been officially canceled, marking one of the rare moments in MAMA history where artists will arrive without public fanfare.
Hong Kong stars Michelle Yeoh and Chow Yun-fat, originally scheduled as presenters, have also withdrawn from participation. However, the main ceremony will air unchanged and be broadcast live worldwide.
27 Teams Still Set to Take the Stage
Even with the somber mood, MAMA 2025 will bring together one of its strongest lineups to date. A total of 27 artists will perform or appear, including:G-Dragon, Stray Kids, ENHYPEN, ZEROBASEONE, Hearts2Hearts, BABYMONSTER and TWS Fans can expect revised stages designed to honor the tone of the moment subdued but impactful, leaning more on artistry and emotion rather than spectacle.
The ceremony begins tonight at 7:30 p.m. KST, live from Kai Tak Stadium.
