KATSEYE has earned major international recognition as their genre-shifting track ‘Gnarly’ secures a spot in the Top 5 of NME’s “50 Best Songs of 2025.” The achievement marks another milestone for the global girl group, who continue to redefine their sound and artistic direction.

Ranking No. 5 on NME’s “Best Songs of 2025”
On December 2 (KST), UK music magazine NME unveiled its annual list of the “50 Best Songs of 2025,” placing KATSEYE’s Gnarly at No. 5. The track is part of the group’s second EP BEAUTIFUL CHAOS and has been praised for its fearless reinvention and sharp musical identity. NME noted that KATSEYE debuted last year with the soft, lovable sound of Touch, which positioned them as rising girl group superstars. However, Gnarly marked a dramatic shift. According to the publication, the song “erased the cute image instantly, revealing an unfiltered attitude and fierce edge.”
A Genre-Bending Track With a Powerful Team Behind It
Gnarly blends hyper-pop with dance and punk elements, resulting in a high energy, distorted sound that pushed the group into bolder territory. The track features production credits from renowned hitmakers including Pink Slip, Tim Randolph, and Bang Si-hyuk, further elevating its global appeal. Though initially met with mixed reactions, the perception shifted dramatically after KATS EYE’s broadcast performance. Their powerful choreography especially the breakout twerking section went viral and became a major driver of the song’s popularity.
Strong Chart Performance in the U.S. and U.K.
Following its performance exposure, Gnarly climbed charts across the world. It entered the UK Official Singles Top 100 at No. 52 (May 9) and later debuted on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 at No. 90 (June 21). Even six months after release, the song continues to show resilience, re-entering global song charts and returning to the Hot 100 thanks to renewed listener demand.
A Global Group Moving Into Awards Season
CAT’S EYE was formed through the survival reality project The Debut: Dream Academy and made their official debut in the U.S. last June. Their fast-rising global profile has now led them to awards season: they are nominated in two categories at the upcoming 68th Grammy Awards Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
As Gnarly continues to earn praise and major placements on year end lists, KATSEYE’s trajectory points toward an even more impactful 2026.
