Actor Lee Byung Hun has officially been nominated for Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, earning one of the most prestigious recognitions of his career.

The nomination comes for his lead role in director Park Chan-wook’s acclaimed film No Other Choice, which follows the emotional unraveling of a man who loses his job and fights to protect his family and home. The film has been praised worldwide for its relatable story and Lee Byung Hun’s powerful, nuanced performance.

This year, Lee goes head-to-head with major Hollywood icons including Leonardo DiCaprio, Timothée Chalamet, George Clooney, Ethan Hawke, and Jesse Plemons—a lineup that underscores the global weight of his nomination.

While the film has also been recognized in major categories such as Best Picture (Musical/Comedy) and Best Non-English Language Film, Lee Byung Hun’s acting nod marks a particularly historic moment. It positions him as one of the few Korean actors to ever compete for a Golden Globe in a main acting category, following the international acclaim he received throughout the global festival circuit.

Before reaching the Golden Globes, Lee had already drawn attention internationally:

  • He received the Special Tribute Award at the Toronto International Film Festival.
  • No Other Choice was invited to the Venice International Film Festival competition section — the first Korean film in 13 years.
  • The film has been selected as Korea’s official submission for the 2026 Academy Awards (International Feature Film).

The 83rd Golden Globe Awards will take place on January 11 in Los Angeles, where all eyes will be on whether Lee Byung Hun can make history once again for Korean cinema.
