Girls’ Generation member Yuri has taken a firm stand against online impersonation and defamation, as a perpetrator who falsely claimed to be her acquaintance has received a criminal fine. On December 17, SM Entertainment announced via its official SNS channels that legal punishment including a fine has been finalized against an individual who impersonated someone close to Yuri and spread false information, resulting in damage to her reputation.

Impersonation Case Results in Fine
According to the agency, the offender, identified as A, pretended to be an acquaintance of Yuri and circulated untrue claims across online platforms. The court ultimately ruled in favor of Yuri, issuing a fine as punishment for the illegal acts. SM stated, “Through fan reports and ongoing monitoring, we have continuously taken legal action against individuals who post malicious content targeting Kwon Yuri on platforms such as Instagram, X, and YouTube.” The agency emphasized that this ruling is not an isolated case, but part of a broader, ongoing effort to protect its artists.
“No Leniency, No Settlements”
SM Entertainment made its position clear regarding future violations.
“There are several other cases currently under investigation,” the agency said. “We will respond strictly to all illegal acts that infringe upon our artists’ rights, without any leniency or settlements.” They added that both civil and criminal measures will be pursued wherever possible, reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward defamation, impersonation, and the spread of false information.
A representative further stressed, “We will continue to do our utmost to protect our artists’ rights in every possible way. We strongly urge the public to exercise caution so that no one faces punishment due to such actions.”
A Message of Protection and Accountability
The case serves as a reminder of the real legal consequences tied to online misconduct—particularly impersonation and reputation damage involving public figures. Yuri’s legal victory reflects a growing industry-wide trend of holding perpetrators accountable rather than overlooking online abuse as inevitable.
Looking Ahead
Despite the incident, Yuri continues to focus on connecting with fans. She is scheduled to meet supporters through her third fan meeting tour ‘YURIVERSE’ on January 24, 2026, at Yonsei University’s Centennial Memorial Concert Hall.
