Rosé Compares Global Hit “APT.” to a Child Who Grew Up on Its Own: “Like Going to Harvard Law”

BLACKPINK’s Rosé shared a humorous yet heartfelt reflection on her global hit “APT.”, comparing the song’s success to a child who unexpectedly grew up on its own and reached extraordinary heights.

Appearing as a guest on Apple Music’s The Zane Lowe Show on December 13 (local time), Rosé spoke openly about her music journey and the surprising life of “APT.” “It feels like a kid I raised who suddenly grew long arms and legs, went to Harvard Law School, and even became president,” she joked, drawing laughter from fans.

Rosé explained that she often refers to the songs on her first solo album rosie as her “children,” each with a different personality. While “APT.” started as just one of them, its explosive global success made her feel like a proud parent watching from afar. “I’m just at home, wearing glasses, scrolling through social media and cheering,” she said.

Released in October last year, “APT.” is a collaboration between Rosé and global pop star Bruno Mars. With its upbeat sound and addictive chorus, the song quickly gained worldwide popularity. It topped Billboard’s 2025 year-end Global 200 and Global (Excl. U.S.) charts, while also ranking No.9 on the year-end Hot 100, marking a major milestone in Rosé’s solo career.

The track’s impact continues into awards season. “APT.” has been nominated in three major categories at the upcoming Grammy Awards, including Song of the Year and Record of the Year, further cementing its cultural influence.

Reflecting on the songwriting process, Rosé shared that while she sensed the song could change her life, its success never felt guaranteed. “It felt like a 50-50 chance,” she admitted, adding that people’s curiosity about the meaning of “APT.” gave her confidence to release it.

Rosé also spoke about how her solo journey has positively influenced BLACKPINK as a group. “I really love where BLACKPINK is now,” she said. “We go out, gain inspiration from our individual paths, and come back together with new energy.” She expressed gratitude to fans for growing alongside the group and described the current tour as a celebration of achievements she never imagined at 16.

With “APT.” continuing to thrive globally, Rosé’s candid words highlight not only the song’s success but also the joy of watching art take on a life of its own.
