Actor Hyun Bin has shared heartfelt thoughts on making history with his wife Son Ye-jin at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, where the couple became the first married pair to win Best Actor and Best Actress in the same year.
Hyun Bin appeared in a video released on December 21 via the YouTube channel Fairy Jaehyung, where he spoke candidly about the moment. Reflecting on the awards night, he said that simply being nominated was already an honor, calling the experience deeply meaningful.
He recalled sitting next to Son Ye-jin during the ceremony, explaining that the seat was originally meant for actor Lee Byung-hun, who was unable to attend due to overseas commitments. “I ended up sitting next to my wife,” Hyun Bin said. “When I was announced first and then her name was called, I felt incredibly happy.”
Hyun Bin also noted that the win carried extra significance as it marked the first projects both he and Son Ye-jin completed after marriage. He shared that he began filming Harbin shortly after their son was born, while Son Ye-jin experienced a longer hiatus from acting.
“She has always loved acting and building her filmography,” he said. “Because she had such a long break, I knew she had a real thirst for acting. Seeing that lead to such a meaningful award made me genuinely happy for her.”
He added that while Son Ye-jin enjoys motherhood, her passion as an actress has always been strong. Her return to acting, followed by critical recognition, felt like a well-deserved reward after years of patience and dedication.
