Seo Ye-ji is set to take on a new artistic challenge as she officially steps onto the theater stage for the first time since her debut.
On December 26, it was confirmed that Seo Ye-ji will star in the stage play Hymn of Death, which will run from January 30 to March 2 at the M Theater of Sejong Center for the Performing Arts in Seoul.
Based on playwright Yoon Dae-seong’s acclaimed work, Hymn of Death reimagines the tragic real-life love story of Korea’s first soprano Yoon Sim-deok and genius playwright Kim Woo-jin. The production also expands the narrative by introducing pioneering female painter Na Hye-seok, highlighting the friendship and solidarity between two progressive women of the early 20th century.

Seo Ye-ji will portray Yoon Sim-deok, a role that demands both emotional depth and vocal presence. This marks her first-ever appearance in a theatrical production, a significant milestone in her career. Actress Jeon So-min will share the role through double casting, continuing her involvement from the play’s initial run earlier this year.
The cast lineup also includes Park Eun-seok and Kwak Si-yang as Kim Woo-jin, while Kim Ryeo-eun and Jin So-yeon will alternate as Na Hye-seok. The role of composer Hong Nan-pa will be played by Park Sun-ho and Kim Geon-ho.
Following a successful premiere this past summer, the play’s return has drawn heightened attention, particularly with Seo Ye-ji’s participation. Known for her intense performances in dramas such as It’s Okay to Not Be Okay and Eve, expectations are high for how she will reinterpret Yoon Sim-deok on a live stage.
Hymn of Death will open on January 30 at Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, offering audiences a chance to witness Seo Ye-ji’s long-awaited return through a bold new medium.
