TvN’s upcoming romantic comedy Spring Fever is gearing up to heat up the new year, with the production team expressing confidence about reclaiming the top spot in the competitive Monday–Tuesday drama lineup.

On December 29, an online production presentation was held for tvN’s new Monday–Tuesday series Spring Fever (written by Kim Ahjung, directed by Park Wonguk). Director Park Wonguk and lead actors Lee Joobin and Ahn Bohyun attended the event and shared behind the scenes insights into the drama.

A Hot Pink Romance to Melt Frozen Hearts

Spring Fever tells the story of Yoon Bom (played by Lee Joobin), a teacher hardened by life’s cold winds, and Sun Jaegyu (played by Ahn Bohyun), a man with a fiercely passionate heart. Their unexpected encounter sparks a vibrant, spring like romance that promises both warmth and humor.

Director Park described the drama as “a romance that unfolds when Bom, who wants to live an ordinary life, meets the anything but ordinary Jaegyu.” He added, “The script was simply too fun to pass up. Jaegyu is a character who breaks conventional drama formulas and redefines what true coolness looks like. Spring Fever offers something that goes beyond familiar rom-com tropes.”

Park also referenced his previous hit Marry My Husband, joking, “After that project, ordinary love stories just aren’t enough anymore. I feel pressure to deliver something that surpasses it.” Ahn Bohyun echoed that ambition, saying, “I want Spring Fever to reclaim the No.1 spot in the Monday–Tuesday slot. I hope we can live up to viewers’ expectations.”

Ahn Bohyun’s Confident Transformation

Explaining why he chose the project, Ahn Bohyun said, “The script was incredibly entertaining. I’ve always wanted to try acting in dialect, and this role felt like the perfect chance to unleash that hidden weapon.”

He continued, “This drama has a completely different tone from my previous work. I approached it with the mindset that ‘this is mine,’ and that confidence really drove me.” To bring the webtoon inspired character to life, Bohyun revealed that he gained 4–5 kilograms of muscle, trained physically, and embraced bold hairstyles and fashion choices typically seen only in comics.

Chemistry That Goes Beyond Expectations

Lee Joobin highlighted the pair’s on screen chemistry, teasing, “You haven’t seen this level of ‘size difference chemistry’ before.” She added, “The drama fully utilizes Ahn Bohyun’s physical presence. There were moments where I thought, ‘Is this person even human?’ His stamina and physique are a huge part of his charm.” She also pointed out the appeal of regional dialects, saying, “The back and forth between a Busan man and a Seoul woman creates a lot of fun, natural comedy.”

Both actors emphasized their strong rapport. Ahn Bohyun remarked that Lee Joobin seemed to step straight out of the original novel’s cover art, while Joobin shared that Bohyun’s unexpected lines and performances helped create a natural, lively rhythm between their characters.

Premiere Date

tvN’s Spring Fever is set to premiere on January 5 at 8:50 p.m. KST, marking the network’s first romantic comedy of the new year.

Editor’s Insight

The success of Spring Fever in early 2026 was a masterclass in “counter-programming.” While other networks were leaning into heavy revenge thrillers, Director Park Won-guk delivered a “Hot Pink Romance” that acted as the perfect emotional tonic for the winter season. Ahn Bo-hyun’s transformation into Sun Jae-gyu the tough-looking Busan man with the heart of a teddy bear completely subverted the “scary gangster” trope. His use of a regional dialect (a “hidden weapon” he teased during the press conference) added a layer of grounded charm that helped the drama dominate OTT platforms like Amazon Prime Video across 48 countries.

The finale provided the closure fans were craving, with Yoon Bom (Lee Joo-bin) finally confronting her past scars and finding a “permanent spring” with Jae-gyu. Critics have praised the show for its “over-the-top madness” balanced with genuine emotional depth, comparing its energy to classics like Strong Girl Bong-soon. By the time the final episode aired, the “Bom-shik” couple (the fan nickname for the duo) had solidified their spot as the first iconic K-drama pairing of 2026. If you missed it during its live run, it’s currently the top-recommended binge-watch for anyone needing a dose of pure, unadulterated joy.
