Actor Hyun Bin has spoken candidly about his feelings toward his wife, actress Son Ye-jin, revealing lingering regret over not being able to stay by her side after the birth of their child.
“I Felt Sorry I Couldn’t Be There”
On January 2, Hyun Bin appeared in an interview video uploaded to the official YouTube channel of the Blue Dragon Film Awards. During the conversation, he reflected on a pivotal period in his life when major career milestones and personal moments overlapped.
Hyun Bin shared that the day after the ancestral rite for his film Harbin, his child was born.
“For me, Harbin and my child began at the same time,” he said. “But because of my schedule, I couldn’t stay with my child afterward and that made me feel very sorry toward my wife.”

A Moment of Shared Pride
Hyun Bin recently won Best Actor at the 46th Blue Dragon Film Awards for his performance in Harbin. Looking back, he admitted he hadn’t expected the win.
“I honestly didn’t think I would receive the award,” he said. “At first I felt dazed, and only a few days later did it truly sink in.”
Recalling Son Ye-jin’s reaction, he added, “I think she just hugged me. That meant more than any words. To be honest, I feel even happier when my wife receives an award than when I do.”
Two Careers, One Turning Point
Hyun Bin also noted that both he and Son Ye-jin happened to work on their first post-marriage films around the same time—hers being The Point of No Return (working title), released in 2025.
“There was a lot of congratulations surrounding that,” he said, emphasizing how meaningful that period was for them both professionally and personally.

A Message for the Future
Despite his regret, Hyun Bin shared a hopeful thought about the years ahead.
“When my child grows up, I want to tell them, ‘When you came into this world, your father was acting in a film like this, portraying a character like this,’” he said. “Winning such a big award allows me to say that with more confidence.”
A Quiet Family Life
Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin married in 2022 and welcomed their son later that year. While they continue to keep their family life largely private, Hyun Bin’s recent remarks offered a rare, heartfelt glimpse into the balance between his work as an actor and his role as a husband and father—one marked by pride, gratitude, and lingering tenderness.
