Singer actress BIBI is set to make her first ever foray into historical drama, joining a high profile cast in director Kim Hanmin’s upcoming epic film ‘The Sword of Godumakhan.’
According to industry sources on January 6, BIBI will make a special appearance in ‘The Sword of Godumakhan,’ a large scale action historical film currently preparing to begin production. While her role details remain under wraps, her participation alone has significantly heightened anticipation for the project.

A High-Concept Historical Epic
‘The Sword of Godumakhan’ is set two years after the fall of Pyongyang Fortress of Goguryeo. The story follows a warrior who has lost his memory and is drawn into a brutal battle among five tribes, all fighting to claim the legendary sword of Goguryeo known as Godumakhan’s Sword. The film promises intense sword combat and a raw portrayal of Goguryeo warriors, blending myth, action, and survival.
The project has already drawn attention thanks to its director. Kim Han-min is known for helming some of Korea’s most successful historical blockbusters, including ‘War of the Arrows’ (2011), ‘The Admiral: Roaring Currents’ (2014), ‘Hansan: Rising Dragon’ (2022), and ‘Noryang: Deadly Sea’ (2023). Notably, ‘The Admiral: Roaring Currents’ attracted over 17.6 million viewers, remaining the highest-grossing Korean film of all time.
A Cast That Raises Expectations
The film’s casting lineup has steadily fueled buzz. Park Bogum, Cha Seungwon, and Joo Won were previously confirmed, signaling a production anchored by star power and acting credibility. BIBI’s addition as a special appearance further strengthens the ensemble, adding a fresh and unpredictable element to the film. Industry observers note that even a brief role in a Kim Han-min film often carries narrative weight, making BIBI’s participation all the more intriguing.
BIBI’s Expanding Acting Career
BIBI debuted as an actress in the 2021 horror film ‘Whispering Corridors 6: The Humming’ and has since steadily expanded her filmography. She made a special appearance in ‘Phantom’ (2023) and earned critical acclaim for her leading role in ‘Hopeless’ (2023), which was invited to the Un Certain Regard section at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
Her television work has been equally impactful, with notable performances in Disney+ series ‘The Worst of Evil’ and ‘Gangnam B-Side’ (both 2023), as well as SBS’s ‘The Fiery Priest 2’ (2024). These roles have solidified her status as one of Korea’s most distinctive crossover artists, balancing music and acting with equal presence.
A First Step Into Sageuk
‘The Sword of Godumakhan’ marks BIBI’s first challenge in the historical genre, a milestone that has drawn particular interest from fans and critics alike. Known for her modern, unconventional image, her transition into a period setting raises questions about how she will reinterpret herself within a traditional cinematic framework.
With filming set to begin soon, attention is now focused on how BIBI will leave her mark on Kim Hanmin’s epic and how this first sageuk experience may further expand her already versatile career.
