The upcoming Korean film Project Y is raising anticipation not only for its story but also for its carefully crafted soundtrack. With acclaimed producer GRAY serving as music director, the film’s OST brings together distinctive voices including Hwasa, Kim Wan-sun, and Ahn Shin-ae, transforming music into a key narrative force.

A Crime Drama Where Music Mirrors Emotion

Project Y follows Misen and Dogyeong, two women struggling to survive in a dazzling yet unforgiving city. Pushed to the edge, they make a dangerous choice that pulls them into a world of illegal money and stolen gold bars. From the outset, the film positions music as more than background sound, using it to reflect the characters’ inner conflicts and emotional shifts.

Hwasa Opens the Film With a Striking First Note

The first pre-released track, “Fool for You,” performed by Hwasa, plays during the film’s opening. Blending smooth jazz textures with a bold, modern edge, the song immediately sets the tone. GRAY has praised Hwasa for her precise emotional interpretation, noting that her vocal color naturally aligns with the film’s atmosphere. Even before the full OST rollout, the track has drawn strong reactions online for showcasing a new yet fitting side of the artist.

Kim Wan-sun’s “Wave” Captures the Film’s Core Message

Scheduled for pre-release on January 11 at 2 PM KST, “Wave” by Kim Wan-sun is described as one of the soundtrack’s emotional pillars. Flowing over scenes of the city’s nightscape, the song carries the film’s central themes of desire, risk, and consequence. GRAY has shared that Kim Wan-sun’s presence brought unexpected depth, turning the track into a moment that lingers long after it ends.

Ahn Shin-ae Brings the Story to a Powerful Close

The final pre-release arrives on January 18 at 2 PM KST with “Man in the Sky,” sung by Ahn Shin-ae. Serving as the ending theme, the soul R&B track condenses the film’s intense journey into one last emotional release. GRAY revealed that Ahn Shin-ae exceeded expectations with her raw, soulful delivery, giving the film a resonant musical conclusion.

Music as a Narrative Device

According to GRAY, every vocal track was designed to function as an emotional mechanism rather than a simple insert. From genre selection to melody, lyrics, and vocal tone, each song was tailored to match specific scenes and character states. This approach shaped an OST lineup that also includes artists such as DeVita and Hoody, further enriching the film’s sonic identity.

Release Information

Preview videos for Kim Wan-sun’s “Wave” and Ahn Shin-ae’s “Man in the Sky” will be released sequentially through SLL’s official music channel, GOGOSING, across social platforms.
Project Y is set to premiere nationwide in theaters on January 21.

As its soundtrack continues to roll out, Project Y is positioning itself as a film where music and story move in lockstep, promising an immersive cinematic experience shaped as much by sound as by image.
