Actor Chae Jonghyeop has made a meaningful contribution to the epilepsy community, donating ₩50 million (approximately $37,000 USD) to support patients in need and raise awareness about the condition.
On January 7, the Korean Epilepsy Association announced that Chae Jonghyeop had donated the funds to help cover medical expenses for underprivileged epilepsy patients as well as to support public awareness and education initiatives related to the condition.

A Donation Rooted in Personal Experience
Chae Jonghyeop’s donation carries particular weight because it stems from his own lived experience. The actor has previously disclosed that he was diagnosed with epilepsy, a fact he publicly shared in 2023 when explaining his exemption from mandatory military service. At the time, he revealed that he had received a Grade 5 wartime labor service classification due to the condition.
Reflecting on his decision to donate, Chae said, “I understand the pain of people living with epilepsy very well. I hope that my small contribution can be of some help and strength to those who are struggling.” His words highlight a desire not only to provide financial assistance, but also to foster empathy and understanding for patients who often face both medical and social challenges.
Gratitude From the Epilepsy Community
The Korean Epilepsy Association expressed deep appreciation for the actor’s support.
“Chae Jong-hyeop’s donation is a great source of encouragement,” the organization said. “It shows genuine understanding of the hardships faced by epilepsy patients and their families, and offers meaningful support during difficult times.” Advocates note that public figures speaking openly about epilepsy and supporting related causes can play a crucial role in reducing stigma and improving public perception.
A Rising Actor With a Growing Impact
Chae Jong-hyeop made his acting debut in 2016 through a web drama and has since steadily built his career. He gained wider recognition through popular projects such as ‘Stove League,’ ‘Nevertheless,’ ‘Shooting Stars,’ and ‘Castaway Diva,’ establishing himself as one of Korea’s notable rising actors. While his career continues to gain momentum, his recent donation has drawn attention to his actions off screen, positioning him as a figure who uses his platform to support meaningful causes.
Looking Ahead
Chae Jonghyeop is set to return to television later this year through MBC’s upcoming Friday–Saturday drama ‘In the Brilliant Season of You,’ scheduled to air in the first half of 2026.
