Netflix is expanding its Korean variety lineup with an unconventional new project led by producer Na Young-seok, unveiling a winter hiking reality show that turns reluctant climbers into unlikely adventurers. On January 15, Netflix confirmed the production of ‘Take A Hike’, a variety series that follows four self proclaimed “non hikers” as they attempt their first ever winter mountain expedition across Korea’s most demanding snow covered peaks.

A Survival Style Take on Hiking

The program centers on four celebrities who have never willingly embraced hiking, yet find themselves embarking on a midwinter ascent of Korea’s most beautiful and unforgiving mountains. The concept, described as a “no choice but to climb” journey, blends physical endurance, emotional breakdowns, and unexpected bonding.

Rather than glorifying outdoor expertise, the show leans into confusion, resistance, and honest reactions. The title itself Take A Hike (why are we even hiking) poses the same question viewers may be asking, promising answers through lived experience rather than motivation speeches.

A Cast Built on Contrast

The lineup brings together four figures from different corners of Korean pop culture:

  • Car, the Garden, known for his distinctive vocals and sharp, self deprecating wit
  • Dowoon of DAY6, the band’s drummer and youngest member, praised for his sociable charm and comedic timing
  • Lee Chae-min, a rising actor who has gained global recognition through recent hit dramas
  • Tarzzan, a member of ALLDAY PROJECT, whose cool onstage persona contrasts with his boundless energy and quirky offstage personality

With little prior connection among them, the cast’s chemistry is expected to evolve naturally under pressure an element that has become a signature of Na Young-seok led productions.

The Na Young-seok Touch

The series is produced under the Na Young-seok creative group, with Park Hyun-yong PD directing. Park previously worked on hits such as Earth Arcade, Jinny’s Kitchen, and the New Journey to the West franchise. According to the production team, the show’s emotional core lies in how shared hardship accelerates intimacy. “There’s a saying that people grow close fastest when they suffer together,” Park said. “Watching four strangers climb subzero mountains together reveals raw reactions you can’t script.”

More Than a Travel Show

Beyond comedy, Take A Hike aims to explore why hiking holds such a deep cultural place in Korea and whether those who never understood it might find meaning through the experience.

Netflix has not yet announced a release date, but anticipation is high as the platform continues its collaboration with Na Young-seok, blending everyday discomfort with character driven storytelling.
