With its theatrical release just around the corner, the upcoming film ‘Project Y’ is drawing attention as its lead actresses Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo shared key viewing points that define the film’s tone and appeal.
Directed by Lee Hwan, ‘Project Y’ tells the story of two women who have nothing but each other. In a bid to escape their harsh reality, they steal a cache of illicit money, setting off a chain of events driven by desire, conflict, and consequence. Alongside Han and Jeon, the film features Kim Shin-rok and a strong ensemble cast.

A Collision of Distinct Characters
One of the film’s main highlights lies in its character driven structure. Rather than focusing solely on the two leads, Project Y unfolds through a web of seven distinct characters, each drawn into the orbit of the stolen money.
Han So-hee plays Mi-seon, while Jeon Jong-seo portrays Do-kyung, the two women at the center of the story. Surrounding them are Ga-young (Kim Shin-rok), Hwang-so (Jung Young-joo), Seok-gu (Lee Jae-kyun), Ha-kyung (Yoo Ah), and To-sajang (Kim Sung-cheol). Their intersecting desires and clashes form the backbone of the film’s tension. Director Lee explained that the film began with a curiosity about human desire. “As the story developed, I wanted to create something like a parade of characters,” he said, emphasizing the ensemble nature of the narrative.
Unpredictable Momentum
The film’s fast paced progression is another key point. Just as Mi-seon and Do-kyung glimpse the life they have long dreamed of, everything collapses. The story moves in unexpected directions, keeping viewers off balance as motivations shift and consequences escalate. Jeon Jong-seo cited a scene involving the discovery of gold bars as one of her favorites. “Even though something serious has happened, there’s a moment where they’re genuinely happy upon finding the gold,” she recalled, noting how the contrast left a strong impression.
A Striking Opening Sequence
The film’s opening scene has already emerged as a standout. Han So-hee and Jeon Jong-seo walk through an underground passageway illuminated by multicolored lights as the song ‘FOOL FOR YOU’ plays. The sequence is an intentional homage to Millennium Mambo (2003), setting a cinematic tone from the start.
Han described the moment as especially memorable. “Two friends who tried to change their lives walk forward without knowing the answer to how they’ll live next,” she said, inviting audiences to watch closely.
‘Project Y’ opens in theaters on January 21.
