HYBE America is expanding its global pop strategy through a new collaboration with Netflix and creator Alan Chikin Chow, unveiling a scripted series that documents the birth of a next-generation pop group built on HYBE’s K-pop production methodology.
On January 20 (local time), HYBE America announced a partnership with Chow one of the world’s most influential digital creators and Netflix to co-produce a scripted series centered on aspiring idols. The project aims to combine narrative storytelling with real world artist development, positioning entertainment content itself as a launchpad for a new pop group.

A Story-Driven Path to Debut
The upcoming series follows a group of idol hopefuls who enroll in an arts academy and form a co-ed band, charting their journey through competition, collaboration, and growth. The format builds on the storytelling foundation of ‘Alan’s Universe,’ Chow’s popular YouTube drama series known for its structured narratives and emotional arcs.
Unlike traditional audition programs, the project emphasizes character driven storytelling, allowing viewers to connect with participants before they officially debut. As the series unfolds, cast members are expected to release original music and begin activities as recording artists, blurring the line between fiction and real-world pop promotion.
Alan Chikin Chow’s Global Reach
Alan Chikin Chow brings significant digital influence to the partnership. His content has amassed over 60 billion views worldwide, with a combined following of approximately 130 million followers across platforms. Alan’s Universe, which focuses on themes of youth, friendship, and values, reaches nearly 1 billion monthly views, making it one of the most influential youth-oriented narrative franchises online. HYBE America views Chow’s storytelling expertise as a natural complement to its own artist development system, particularly in engaging younger, global audiences accustomed to short form and episodic content.
HYBE’s K-Pop Methodology at the Core
Central to the project is HYBE’s K-pop based production system, which integrates long-term training, narrative identity-building, and fan engagement strategies. The company previously applied this approach to launch global girl group KATSEYE through the audition program The Debut: Dream Academy.
The KATSEYE debut process was later chronicled in Netflix’s documentary series ‘Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE,’ establishing a precedent for combining HYBE’s methodology with long form streaming content. The new project is positioned as a creative evolution rather than a repeat, with stronger emphasis on scripted storytelling.
A Cultural Experiment in the Making
James Shin, President of Film and TV at HYBE America, described the series as a potential “cultural model” for how pop groups are formed in the digital era. He emphasized that the collaboration aims to expand fan building strategies by merging creator ecosystems with traditional music production. Alan Chikin Chow echoed that sentiment, calling the partnership a groundbreaking project that brings together HYBE America’s global music expertise and Netflix’s storytelling platform to deliver inspiration and entertainment to worldwide audiences.
