ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun-woo has responded to reports surrounding a large-scale tax investigation, with his agency emphasizing that the matter has not yet been finalized and remains under legal review.
On January 22, Cha Eun-woo’s agency Fantagio released an official statement addressing media reports that he had been notified of an additional tax payment exceeding 20 billion KRW (approximately 200 billion won) following a tax audit.
According to the agency, the core issue involves whether a company established by Cha Eun-woo’s mother should be considered the actual taxable entity. Fantagio stressed that the case has not been officially concluded and no final tax ruling has been issued.
“This matter has not been definitively confirmed. We will actively clarify the legal interpretation and cooperate fully through proper procedures,” the agency said.
Investigation Still Under Review
The tax inquiry reportedly began in 2025 when the Seoul Regional Tax Office conducted an intensive audit into transactions involving a personal management company linked to Cha Eun-woo’s family. Authorities questioned whether income that should have been taxed personally had instead been distributed through a corporate structure.
However, Cha Eun-woo’s side has formally filed for a pre-assessment review, a legal process that allows taxpayers to challenge the tax authority’s interpretation before a final decision is made.
Agency Emphasizes Compliance
Fantagio stated that Cha Eun-woo and his tax representatives are fully cooperating with the review process and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling all tax obligations in accordance with the law.
“Cha Eun-woo will continue to faithfully comply with all legal and tax responsibilities as a citizen,” the agency added.
At present, the case remains under examination, and no final ruling or confirmed penalty has been announced.
