Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum has publicly requested additional concert dates for BTS’s upcoming world tour stop in Mexico City, citing exceptionally high local demand for the group’s performances. Speaking at a regular press briefing on January 27, President Sheinbaum confirmed that she had sent an official letter to South Korean President Lee Jae-myung, asking for consideration of added shows during BTS’s Mexico leg of their world tour, titled ‘Arirang.’

Demand Far Exceeds Available Seats
BTS is currently scheduled to perform in Mexico City on May 7 and May 9–10 at GNP Seguros Stadium. According to President Sheinbaum, estimated demand for the concerts has reached approximately one million people, while the venue’s total seating capacity across the scheduled dates is around 150,000 seats. “BTS is a global group with extraordinary influence,” Sheinbaum said, noting the group’s particularly strong popularity among young people in Mexico. “We would like to give our youth the opportunity to experience this group in person.”
Diplomatic Outreach for Cultural Access
The Mexican president described the request as a cultural and diplomatic outreach rather than a commercial demand. She added that once a response is received from the South Korean government, it will be shared publicly.
Sheinbaum also acknowledged the logistical challenges surrounding BTS’s global tour schedule. According to her remarks, she had previously inquired with the local concert organizer, OCESA, about the possibility of adding dates, but was informed that it would be difficult due to worldwide demand for the group.Despite this, she indicated that alternative solutions are being explored.
Considering Public Viewing Options
If additional performances cannot be arranged, President Sheinbaum suggested the possibility of installing large outdoor screens near the venue so that more fans could watch the concert in real time. “We hope for a positive response,” she said. “And if additional concerts are not possible, we want to explore other ways for more people to take part.”
BTS Activities Continue Ahead of Tour
Meanwhile, BTS is preparing for the release of their fifth full-length album, ‘Arirang,’ scheduled to drop on March 20 at 1 p.m. KST. The album release will precede the group’s world tour, which has already drawn significant international attention.
