Cha Eun-woo’s ‘The WONDERfools’ Is The 2026’s Most Anticipated K-Drama?

The WONDERfools’ is already dominating global anticipation charts and it hasn’t even premiered yet.

In a recent feature titled “12 Upcoming K-Dramas You Cannot Miss,” Screen Rant ranked ‘The WONDERfools’ as the No.1 most anticipated K-drama of 2026, calling it “arguably the most anticipated upcoming K-drama” of the year.

A Superhero Story About People Who Shouldn’t Be Heroes

At its core, ‘The WONDERfools’ flips the traditional superhero formula.

Set in 1999, during the peak of Y2K fears, the drama follows a group of ordinary and often awkward individuals who suddenly gain superpowers. But instead of becoming instant heroes, they struggle… badly.

Described as a “motley crew of misfits,” the group must navigate their new abilities while attempting to protect Haeseong City, often causing chaos along the way. The drama is a blend of comedy, action, and imperfection which is exactly what’s setting the series apart and drawing attention from people all over the world.

The drama reunites Park Eun-bin with director Yoo In-sik, following their global success with ‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’. This time, Park Eun-bin takes on a completely different role as Eun Chae-ni, a bold and unpredictable character who gains powers after an unexpected incident.

Opposite her is Cha Eun-woo, playing Lee Woon-jung, a reserved civil servant investigating mysterious disappearance cases a storyline that adds a darker, investigative layer to the otherwise comedic setup.

The cast is further strengthened by veteran actors including Kim Hae-sook, Son Hyun-joo, Choi Dae-hoon, and Im Seong-jae, signaling a production that blends star power with acting depth.

K-dramas have expanded globally, but superhero storytelling remains relatively underexplored in Korea. ‘The WONDERfools’ arrives at a moment when audiences are ready for something new not just bigger, but different. Instead of polished heroes, it focuses on flawed individuals, characters that the viewers can easily relate to.
