A body-swap romance, a Joseon villainess, and Lim Ji-yeon’s dual performance are unexpectedly becoming one of Netflix’s biggest new global hits.

Lim Ji-yeon’s latest drama is proving that chaotic comedy and historical fantasy may be one of K-drama’s strongest combinations right now.
According to Netflix’s official Tudum rankings released on May 13, SBS drama ‘My Royal Nemesis’ climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s Non-English TV chart during its very first broadcast week.
The series recorded approximately 3.9 million views globally, quickly becoming one of the platform’s fastest-rising Korean dramas this month. Even more surprisingly, the drama entered Netflix Top 10 rankings across 44 countries, including Korea, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, and Greece.
Lim Ji-yeon’s Double Role Is Becoming the Drama’s Biggest Talking Point
One of the main reasons viewers are reacting so strongly to the series is Lim Ji-yeon’s performance.
In ‘My Royal Nemesis’ the actress plays both Shin Seo-ri, a struggling modern-day actress, and Kang Dan-sim, a notorious villainess from the Joseon era whose spirit suddenly possesses her body. The result is a comedy filled with culture shock, chaos, sharp-tongued arguments, and increasingly bizarre romance dynamics.
Fans online have especially praised how naturally Lim Ji-yeon moves between exaggerated comedy, historical acting, and emotional moments without making the character feel disconnected.
Many viewers are already calling it one of the actress’s most entertaining performances since ‘The Glory.’

The “Enemies-to-Lovers” Romance Is Pulling Fans In
The drama also stars Heo Nam-jun as Cha Segye, a cold and difficult chaebol heir who becomes entangled with Shin Seo-ri after the possession incident turns her personality upside down. Their constant arguing and chaotic chemistry have become another major discussion point online, with viewers praising the drama’s fast pacing and unpredictable tone.
The combination of historical fantasy, romantic comedy, and modern satire appears to be resonating especially well with international audiences.

K-Dramas Continue Dominating Netflix Global Rankings
The success of ‘My Royal Nemesis’ also reflects the continued global dominance of Korean content on Netflix. Other Korean productions currently ranking high in Netflix’s Non-English category include supernatural school drama ‘Girigo’ in second place and Ahn Hyo-seop’s ‘Sold Out Again Today’ in third.
Meanwhile, animated film ‘K-pop Demon Hunters’ remains inside Netflix’s English-language movie Top 10 after an astonishing 47 consecutive weeks, further proving the long-term global demand for Korean storytelling.
And if its explosive first-week numbers are any indication, viewers around the world may have already found their next obsession.
