ILLIT Goes Undercover as Secret Agents in ‘You’re Under Arrest’ And Song Kang Special Appearance

The HYBE rookies’ fifth EP turns a breakup anthem into an espionage thriller, complete with disguises, whistle-blown chases, and a cameo that reframes the entire video’s final ten seconds.

Three minutes and nine seconds. A trench-coated chase through shifting disguises. And then, right as the credits should roll, a mask comes off to reveal actor Song Kang delivering a knowing smile that turns a straightforward comeback video into something with an actual twist ending. ILLIT‘s new music video isn’t just a performance clip. It’s a short film with a reveal built in.

From Heartbreak to Interrogation Room

On October 26, ILLIT released the music video for “You’re Under Arrest” (체포하겠어), the title track from their fifth mini album Break Even, via HYBE Labels’ YouTube channel. The concept reimagines the five members as black-ops agents tracking down a target with unshakable resolve, closing in through a web of disguises that range from tactical field gear to full detective-noir styling. The choreography leans into the bit members blow whistles mid-chase and pursue a fleeing figure through several of the song’s sharpest choreographic beats, all set against a driving electro-pop production.

It’s a sharp conceptual pivot for the group, and a deliberate one. “You’re Under Arrest” is built as a pointed warning to someone who mistook habitual kindness for genuine affection — a theme ILLIT has described as a new phase in their artistic identity, a shift from the group’s earlier, more guarded self-focus (as on their track “My Days,” where they insisted “my ultimate bias is me”) toward a bolder willingness to call out one-sided emotional dynamics and walk away from them entirely. Turning that lyrical directness into a literal interrogation-and-pursuit narrative is a clever structural choice: the “arrest” is metaphorical, but the video takes the metaphor completely literally, and the tension holds up because of it.

The Cameo That Recontextualizes Everything

The video’s final move is its best one. In the closing moments, Song Kang appears as a masked figure and when he pulls the mask away, his expression lands less like a cameo wink and more like a plot point. It reframes the entire chase: the pursuer and pursued dynamic running through the video gets a face at the very last second, inviting repeat viewings just to catch what was hidden earlier.

For an actor of Song Kang’s profile, the appearance is also a notable show of support. He’s spent the past several years establishing himself as one of Korean television’s most reliably compelling leading men through the Netflix survival horror hit Sweet Home, which won him Best New Actor at the Baeksang Arts Awards, the romantic drama Nevertheless, the gentle Forecasting Love and Weather, and the fantasy romance My Demon. He completed his mandatory military service in October 2025 and has only recently returned to the screen, with Four Hands, Two Sonatas marking his post-discharge comeback. A cameo in a K-pop comeback video, rather than a drama role, is a smaller gesture but for a HYBE-affiliated rookie act, borrowing that level of star wattage for ten seconds of screen time is a meaningful vote of confidence.

A Rookie Group That’s Earned the Spotlight the Hard Way

ILLIT’s path here has not been simple. Formed by Belift Lab, a HYBE sub-label, through the 2023 survival competition R U Next?, the five-member group Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee, and Iroha debuted in March 2024 with the EP Super Real Me and its lead single “Magnetic,” which broke rookie records and achieved a rare “Perfect All-Kill” across Korean charts within weeks of release. That momentum collided almost immediately with one of the most publicized controversies in recent K-pop history, when producer Min Hee-jin publicly alleged during the HYBE–ADOR dispute that ILLIT’s visual concept and choreography had been derivatively modeled on NewJeans, the group she had created. The claims, which ILLIT’s members had no part in originating or controlling, nonetheless followed the young group through much of their debut year and drew documented waves of online hostility toward performers who were barely months into their careers.

That history makes “You’re Under Arrest” worth watching with a bit more context than the concept alone suggests. Nearly two years on from a debut overshadowed by a corporate feud not of their making, ILLIT arrives at their fifth EP with a confident genre pivot, a tightly constructed video narrative, and a cameo appearance signaling real industry backing evidence of a group settling into an identity that belongs to them, on their own terms.

What’s Next

ILLIT will perform “You’re Under Arrest” on KBS 2TV’s Music Bank on October 30, continuing the group’s promotional run for Break Even. The EP itself blends dance, speed garage, electro-pop, and baile funk across its tracklist a genre-spanning approach that mirrors the video’s own willingness to swap styles mid-chase.

The Takeaway

A spy-thriller music video with a celebrity reveal is, on its surface, simple comeback-season spectacle. But for ILLIT, “You’re Under Arrest” reads as something closer to a statement of arrival a group that survived a turbulent, scrutiny-heavy debut year now commanding a concept confident enough to hide its best idea until the very last second, and pull in A-list support to help land it.
