Police have officially determined that actress Nana and her mother acted in legitimate self-defense when subduing an armed intruder who broke into their home last week. The assailant, a man in his 30s, has been arrested and will be transferred to prosecutors for indictment. On November 22, the Guri Police Station confirmed that the suspect, identified as A, will be formally sent to the prosecution on November 24 on charges of attempted aggravated robbery and causing injury.

An Armed Intruder Entered Through the Balcony at Dawn

The incident occurred around 6 a.m. on November 15, when A allegedly climbed a ladder and entered Nana’s home in Guri via the veranda. According to police, the man was carrying a weapon and demanded money. Nana and her mother engaged in a physical struggle with the intruder, eventually overpowering him and calling the police. Both women sustained injuries during the altercation, and the suspect also suffered a laceration to his jaw.

Police later confirmed that the injury A sustained was a direct result of self-defense, protected under Article 21(1) of the Korean Criminal Act, which permits reasonable force in response to an ongoing unlawful threat. “There was a clear, immediate threat to the victims,” a police official stated. “The injuries inflicted on the suspect were not excessive and occurred while defending themselves from serious harm.

Suspect’s Attempt to Challenge Arrest Rejected by Court

On November 18, A filed a habeas corpus request, arguing that police failed to properly inform him of his Miranda rights during the arrest. The court dismissed his claim, ruling that the arrest was lawful. The dismissal extended the detention period, and authorities confirmed their plan to transfer A to prosecutors on November 24.

Case Moves Toward Prosecution

With self-defense officially recognized and the intruder facing severe criminal charges, the investigation now enters the prosecutorial phase. Fans and the public have expressed relief that Nana and her mother were found not at fault for acting to protect themselves in a life-threatening situation.
