SHINee member Key has issued a public apology after acknowledging that he received medical treatment from an individual later revealed to be an unlicensed practitioner, commonly referred to as “Injection Aunt.” In response to the controversy, Key has announced a suspension of all scheduled activities. On December 17, SM Entertainment released an official statement addressing the situation and explaining the delay in their response. The agency stated that additional time was needed due to ongoing communications with overseas tour organizers and various stakeholders related to Key’s activities.

“I Believed She Was a Licensed Doctor”

According to the statement, Key visited a hospital where the individual in question, identified as Lee, was working, after being introduced through an acquaintance.
“Key believed Lee to be a licensed doctor at the time,” SM said. “He only became aware that she was not a doctor after recent controversies regarding her medical license surfaced.”

The agency also confirmed that home visits for treatment did take place.
“Key received treatment at the hospital, and on a few occasions, when it was difficult for him to visit in person, he received treatment at home,” the statement read. SM added that because Key believed Lee was a licensed physician and because Lee did not indicate otherwise he did not initially recognize that home treatment could be problematic.

Activities Suspended Amid Reflection

SM emphasized that Key is taking the matter seriously.
“Recognizing the gravity of this issue, Key will suspend all scheduled activities and step down from programs he is currently appearing on,” the agency stated. “He is deeply reflecting on his lack of awareness.”

Key himself also addressed fans directly through Instagram, apologizing for the delay in speaking out. “I was confused and taken aback by the facts I learned later, and I apologize for not being able to organize my position more quickly,” he wrote. He continued, “I will sincerely do everything I can regarding this matter. I will take time to reflect on myself and my surroundings once again. I am truly sorry.”

Background of the Controversy

The situation gained public attention after Dispatch reported on December 6 allegations of illegal medical practices involving entertainer Park Na-rae, who allegedly received IV treatments and prescription medication from the same individual, Lee, who is not a licensed doctor.

Following the report, suspicions arose regarding Key after Lee shared photos on Instagram that included images of Key’s dog and autographed SHINee CDs, fueling speculation about a connection.

Ongoing Investigation

The “Injection Aunt” case is currently under police investigation. Former Korean Medical Association president Lim Hyun-taek filed a formal complaint on December 12, accusing Lee of violating the Medical Service Act and the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act.

As the investigation continues, Key’s agency has not announced a timeline for his return. For now, the artist has stepped back from the public eye, stating his intent to reflect and take responsibility amid growing scrutiny surrounding illegal medical practices in the entertainment industry.
