Seo Hyun-jin Praises Jang Ryul’s Passion in Romance Scenes for JTBC’s ‘Love Me’

Actress Seo Hyun-jin shared candid thoughts about her on-screen chemistry with Jang Ryul during the press conference for JTBC’s upcoming Friday drama ‘Love Me,’ raising anticipation for the couple’s romance especially their much-talked-about kiss scenes.

The production presentation was held on December 18 at The Link Seoul Tribute Portfolio Hotel in Sindorim, Guro-gu, Seoul. Director Jo Young-min attended alongside cast members Seo Hyun-jin, Yoo Jae-myung, Lee Si-woo, Yoon Se-ah, Jang Ryul, and Dahyun, as they discussed the drama’s themes and behind the scenes stories.

“He’s Full of Ideas”

During the event, Seo spoke highly of her co-star Jang Ryul, describing him as an actor with a distinctive creative approach. “Jang Ryul has so many ideas, and his way of thinking is quite unique,” she said with a smile. “He comes to the set having thought deeply about the scenes, so we talked a lot. He helped me see situations from different angles and perspectives.”

Her comments highlighted the collaborative dynamic between the two actors, suggesting that their relationship on screen was built through active discussion and shared interpretation rather than routine execution.

A Different Kind of Melodrama

Often labeled a “melodrama master,” Seo responded modestly to the title. “I’ve never really thought of myself as someone who’s especially good at melodrama,” she said, laughing. “When people call me that, it honestly feels a bit burdensome.” She went on to explain that Love Me portrays a more grounded form of romance. “The melodrama in this drama deals with very real issues that can happen at this stage of life. While acting, I kept asking myself, ‘What choice would I make in this situation?’”

Seo added that although the story may seem ordinary on the surface, it feels anything but. “Our daily lives are so eventful. Because of that, this drama never felt ordinary to me at all.”

“Even the Director Said It Was a First”

One comment in particular drew attention from the press. Seo revealed that even the director was surprised by the energy brought into the romantic scenes. “The director gave us references that weren’t comedic for the romance scenes,” she explained. “But Jang Ryul was very enthusiastic. The director even said it was the first time he had filmed a kiss scene that felt this fun.” Her remark instantly fueled curiosity about the tone and execution of the drama’s romantic moments, hinting at scenes that balance sincerity with unexpected freshness.

About ‘Love Me’

Love Me tells the story of a family that may seem ordinary and even a little selfish, yet deeply human, as each member begins their own journey of love and personal growth. The drama explores relationships through a warm but realistic lens, focusing on emotional choices rather than grand gestures.

JTBC’s new Friday series ‘Love Me’ premieres on December 19 at 8:50 p.m. KST, with viewers already eager to see the chemistry Seo Hyun-jin teased especially the romance that even the director found surprisingly memorable.
