Actress Park Shinhye is set to challenge herself with a late 1990s period drama, stepping into an undercover role in tvN’s upcoming series ‘Undercover Miss Hong’.
Park will star in ‘Undercover Miss Hong’ (written by Moon Hyunkyung, directed by Park Sunho), a Saturday–Sunday drama set in the South Korean securities industry of the 1990s. The series blends office comedy with undercover intrigue, centering on a secret investigation within a major brokerage firm.
An Elite Inspector in Disguise
In the drama, Park Shinhye plays Hong Geumbo, a brilliant and highly capable financial supervisory inspector. After suspicious money flows are detected at a securities company, Hong Geumbo goes undercover as a 20 year old entry level employee, infiltrating the firm from the inside. The role marks Park Shinhye’s first attempt at a period drama, adding another genre to her diverse acting portfolio.
Why She Chose the Role
Speaking about her decision to join the project, Park Shinhye explained that the setting and premise immediately stood out. “I found it intriguing that the story takes place in a time when it wasn’t easy for women to achieve social success,” she said. “The idea of an undercover assignment in that era felt fresh and interesting.”
She also expressed affection for her character, describing Hong Geumbo as someone who has survived intense competition. “She’s a tough survivor who continues to demonstrate her abilities even within a patriarchal social environment,” she added.
Chemistry as a Key Viewing Point
Park Shinhye highlighted character relationships as one of the drama’s major strengths. She pointed to the dynamics between the Financial Supervisory Service team, Hanmin Securities’ crisis management unit, and the four residents of dorm room 301 as elements viewers should look forward to.
