CRAVITY’s Woobin Cast as Romeo in French Musical ‘Romeo & Juliet’

On December 26, the production company revealed the full cast lineup for Romeo & Juliet, confirming Woobin as one of the actors portraying the male lead, Romeo. The role centers on a young man who falls into a fateful love with Juliet and ultimately sacrifices everything for her.

Based on William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, ‘Romeo & Juliet’ is regarded as one of France’s three major musicals and has drawn more than five million audience members across Europe. The musical premiered in Paris in 2001 and has since been staged around the world, including a successful Korean run in 2007 that attracted over 100,000 viewers.

Woobin’s Musical Transition

Woobin, the main vocalist of CRAVITY, has been praised for his clear tone and emotional delivery. Musical officials highlighted his strengths, noting, “Woobin’s refreshing and expressive voice stood out. He has consistently demonstrated versatility across ballads and pop genres.”

Through this production, Woobin is expected to present a youthful and emotionally driven interpretation of Romeo, distinct from his work as a K-pop performer.

Multiple Romeos, Distinct Interpretations

Woobin will share the role of Romeo with N.Flying’s Yoo Hwe-seung and THE BOYZ’s New. Each actor is set to bring a different perspective and emotional texture to the character, adding variety to the production.

Juliet will be portrayed by musical actresses Song Eun-hye and Jang Hye-rin. Additional cast members include Oh Jong-hyuk as Benvolio and Park Min-sung as Mercutio. Supporting roles such as Lady Capulet, Lady Montague, Tybalt, and Lord Capulet will be played by an ensemble of experienced musical actors.

A Grand-Scale Production

The upcoming Korean production will feature six professional dancers and a 24-member ensemble, delivering large-scale choreography and dynamic group scenes. Direction is led by Professor Lee Jong-seok of Seokyeong University, with music direction by Lee Na-young, a recipient of the Korean Musical Awards’ Best Music honor. Choreography is handled by Jung So-yeon, adding a modern edge to the classic story.

Performance Schedule

‘Romeo & Juliet’ will run in Seoul from March 20 to May 31, 2026, at the KEPCO Art Center.

Editor’s Notes

Woobin’s casting as Romeo feels like a defining moment not only for his career, but for CRAVITY’s artistic trajectory as a whole.

Transitioning from a K-pop main vocalist to a leading role in a large-scale musical signals a deliberate expansion of his performance identity. Rather than staying within the boundaries of idol activities, Woobin is stepping into a space that demands deeper emotional expression, live vocal stability, and character immersion.

At the same time, Romeo & Juliet offers the perfect bridge. The role of Romeo, driven by intense love and tragic devotion, aligns naturally with Woobin’s known vocal color and emotional delivery. It allows him to translate what fans already appreciate into a more narrative-driven format.

Sharing the role with established performers also positions this project as both a challenge and an opportunity. It places Woobin in direct comparison with experienced musical actors, but also gives him the platform to prove his versatility on a respected stage.

If successful, this could mark the beginning of a broader shift, where Woobin is no longer seen only as an idol vocalist, but as a performer capable of crossing into musical theater and beyond.
