SEVENTEEN’s agency PLEDIS Entertainment has confirmed significant progress in its ongoing legal response against malicious online activity targeting the group, including the referral of a commenter to prosecutors and a finalized court ruling in a separate information-leak case.
On December 29, PLEDIS shared an official statement via SEVENTEEN’s global fan platform Weverse, providing an update on its legal actions related to defamation, false information, and violations of artist rights. The agency emphasized that it continues to pursue all cases with a zero-tolerance policy.
Criminal Case Referred to Prosecutors
According to the statement, one individual accused of spreading false information and defamatory content about SEVENTEEN has been formally referred to prosecutors following a police investigation. Authorities determined that the case met the criteria for criminal defamation under applicable law, and prosecutorial review is now underway.
PLEDIS made its position clear, stating that it will not consider settlements or leniency in cases involving malicious intent. “The dissemination of false information that damages our artists’ reputation is a serious criminal act that cannot be overlooked,” the agency said.
Legal Action Extends to Overseas Platforms
The agency also revealed progress in cases involving malicious posts on overseas platforms, including X (formerly Twitter). A U.S. court recently approved a request for disclosure of account holder information linked to defamatory activity. PLEDIS stated that it will proceed with legal measures as soon as identities are confirmed.
Court Issues Fine in Confidential Information Leak Case
In a separate matter, the agency confirmed that a court has issued a criminal fine against an individual who leaked SEVENTEEN’s unreleased album and concert related information on anonymous online forums. The court ruled the act constituted unauthorized disclosure of trade secrets, concluding that it caused tangible harm to the company. The ruling has since become final.
Ongoing Commitment to Artist Protection
PLEDIS reiterated that legal action against malicious commenters and harmful online behavior will continue without exception. “We will pursue all cases to the end and ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable,” the agency stated.
Meanwhile, SEVENTEEN continues its global activities, with a new unit featuring DK and Seungkwan set to debut on January 12, alongside an ongoing world tour.
