EXO is preparing to make a statement driven return, reconnecting with its signature SMP (SM Music Performance) identity and expanding its long running worldview through powerful choreography and symbolism.

The group will release its 8th full length album ‘REVERXE’ on January 19, marking its first studio album in approximately two and a half years since 2023’s ‘EXIST’. From the outset, the comeback signals a deliberate return to form one that leans heavily into SM Entertainment’s hallmark blend of music, narrative, and performance.

A Clear Embrace of SMP Style

At the center of the album is title track ‘Crown’, which has been confirmed to embody the core elements of SMP: intense sound, message driven lyrics, and visually commanding choreography. Rather than prioritizing trend based performance, EXO is focusing on scale, structure, and symbolism hallmarks that defined the group’s earlier eras.

The choreography for ‘Crown’ incorporates three dimensional expressions of EXO’s established universe, translating abstract lore into physical movement. One standout moment includes a point move where members appear to grasp and place crowns upon their heads, reinforcing themes of authority, rebirth, and self determination.

Performance Built on Unity and Presence

The choreography was co-created by renowned choreographers J RICK and Bada Lee, and centers on powerful group formations and synchronized movement. The structure emphasizes EXO’s identity as a complete team, while still allowing each member’s individuality to surface within the collective.

A Comeback Fans Were Told to Expect

EXO had previously hinted at this direction. During last year’s fan meeting, the members revealed that the upcoming title track would lean into SMP styling, raising expectations among long-time fans. Those expectations were further reinforced at MMA 2025, where EXO delivered a forceful performance of ‘Back It Up,’ reminding audiences of their command over high-impact choreography.

According to the agency, the group has already previewed elements of SMP through spoiler stages and B-side performances, all of which were met with strong fan response.
“EXO has been gradually building anticipation by teasing SMP elements,” SM Entertainment stated. “We ask fans to look forward to the full performance of ‘Crown.’”

A Worldview-Focused Return

With ‘REVERXE’, EXO isn’t simply releasing new music it’s reinforcing a universe fans have followed for over a decade. By anchoring the comeback in SMP and lore-driven performance, the group positions itself not as a legacy act revisiting old formulas, but as artists reasserting what made their identity distinct in the first place.
