As ‘Project Y’ arrives in theaters, the film is extending its storytelling beyond the screen with the release of a carefully curated original soundtrack, drawing attention for a lineup that rivals its headline-making cast.

According to Plus M Entertainment, the official ‘Project Y’ OST will be released digitally on January 21 at 6 p.m. KST, coinciding with the film’s nationwide theatrical opening. Directed by Lee Hwan, Project Y follows Mi-seon and Do-kyung two women dreaming of a different future in the heart of the city whose lives spiral after stealing illicit money and gold bars at the edge of desperation.

Music as an Emotional Engine

The soundtrack was completed under the direction of renowned producer and music director GRAY, who approached the project with a clear philosophy. Rather than functioning as background accompaniment, the music was designed to actively guide the film’s emotional flow.

GRAY explained that he wanted the music to operate as an “emotional device” that carries each character’s inner world and narrative arc. That intention is reflected in the OST’s layered soundscape, which mirrors the film’s tension filled urban setting while revealing the longing, emptiness, and fragile hope beneath the surface. Drawing from a wide range of genres including 1970s soul, jazz-infused R&B, psychedelic textures, and city pop the soundtrack amplifies the rhythm and atmosphere unique to crime driven entertainment films. The result is a score that deepens immersion while leaving a lingering aftertaste once scenes fade.

A Vocal Lineup That Defines Mood

One of the OST’s most striking features is its vocal lineup. Artists such as Hwasa, Kim Wan-sun, DeVita, Hoody, and Ahn Shin-ae lend their voices to the project, each bringing a distinct tone that adds color to the film’s emotional palette.

Rather than competing for attention, the singers’ contributions complement the narrative, expressing Project Y’s identity through subtle variation from restrained vulnerability to raw intensity. Their participation elevates the soundtrack into a standalone listening experience, even outside the context of the film. The digital album includes six vocal tracks, along with 31 instrumental score pieces, allowing listeners to trace the film’s full musical journey from opening tension to emotional resolution.
