BTS V Named Champion Global Ambassador and Fans Are Obsessed With the Campaign

BTS member V has officially added another major fashion partnership to his growing résumé but this one feels noticeably different.

Champion has named Kim Taehyung, better known as V, as its global ambassador, placing the singer at the center of the American sportswear brand’s new “Spoken Like a True Champion” campaign. Champion describes V as an artist whose influence extends beyond music into fashion, art and global popular culture.

Rather than transforming V into a conventional athlete for the campaign, Champion appears to have done almost the opposite.

The campaign leans into the things fans already associate with him: vintage clothing, jazz, analog music, relaxed interiors and an effortless approach to personal style. Champion says the V-led “Meet the Moment” story was specifically inspired by his appreciation for jazz, vintage aesthetics and a slower, more intentional way of living.

And judging from the first wave of fan reactions, the pairing is already making sense.

Champion gives V a very different fashion moment

V is no stranger to polished fashion campaigns, but his Champion images strip away some of the formality usually associated with celebrity endorsements.

The BTS star appears in relaxed sportswear and heritage-inspired pieces rather than elaborate runway looks. Fashion coverage of the campaign highlights oversized varsity jackets, rugby-inspired tops, quarter-zips, sweatpants and retro sneakers, photographed in warm spaces filled with records, cassette tapes and other nostalgic objects.

The result feels less like V dressing as a spokesperson and more like Champion entering his existing aesthetic. That was intentional.

Speaking to GQ about the partnership, V described Champion as a natural fit because he enjoys clothing that feels comfortable and uncomplicated when he is away from cameras. He explained that although he enjoys high fashion, his everyday wardrobe is often considerably simpler. “My style is pretty instinctive,” V said, explaining that he generally chooses whatever catches his attention and feels right to wear.

That approach aligns closely with Champion’s new campaign message, which places individuality and authenticity above the traditional idea of simply “winning.” The brand says its campaign focuses on creativity, resilience and having the confidence to approach important moments as yourself.

There’s a very Taehyung detail hidden in the campaign

One of the most distinctive aspects of V’s Champion campaign is how heavily it incorporates his interest in analog culture.

The visuals include V with a trumpet and around cassette tapes, while he has also spoken about his continuing preference for vinyl records despite the convenience of modern digital listening.

It connects naturally with the musical world V has developed outside BTS.

His 2023 solo album Layover emphasized laid-back R&B and jazz-influenced textures, helping establish a quieter artistic identity separate from the scale and intensity associated with many BTS performances. Champion’s campaign does not directly recreate Layover, but the jazz and vintage references make the connection difficult to miss.

Even V’s favorite piece from the campaign carries a personal detail.

He told GQ that he particularly likes a gray long-sleeve Champion shirt featuring a red logo, explaining that the small flash of red gives the otherwise casual item additional character.

For longtime fans familiar with V’s habit of mixing classic pieces with small unexpected details, it is precisely the kind of item that feels believable in his own wardrobe.

Fans: “I liked Champion, but I like it even more now”

Fan response followed almost immediately after Champion introduced V.

A translated collection of Korean community comments showed viewers repeatedly praising how naturally the singer fits the brand. Rather than treating the campaign as an unexpected pairing, many argued that Champion’s vintage American sportswear aesthetic suits V unusually well.

One fan wrote, “He matches it so, so well,” while another commented, “I liked Champion, but I like it even more now.” Others focused on how the casual clothing looked on V, with one user saying that his presence made the pieces themselves appear more attractive.

The enthusiasm had actually begun before the complete announcement.

When Champion teased the collaboration online, fan discussion quickly centered on the possibility that the mystery figure was V, with reactions celebrating “our champ Kim Taehyung” before the partnership was formally revealed.

The excitement is important because this campaign gives fans something different from the dramatic luxury-fashion version of V.

Champion’s hoodies, sweatshirts, athletic pieces and casual basics belong much more naturally to an everyday wardrobe. Champion itself positions the campaign around apparel designed for daily movement and personal expression rather than only performance or formal fashion.

That makes the partnership potentially more relatable: fans are seeing V in clothing closer to what he says he actually wears when he is relaxing.

Why V may be exactly what Champion needs right now

The partnership also arrives during an important period for Champion itself.

Founded in 1919, the American sportswear company has spent more than a century building its reputation around athletic clothing and iconic items such as its Reverse Weave sweatshirts. In recent years, the brand has increasingly emphasized its position at the intersection of sport, streetwear and popular culture.

Its recent campaigns have deliberately recruited figures from entertainment, sport and fashion rather than relying exclusively on athletes.

V gives that strategy enormous international visibility. But perhaps more importantly, the collaboration does not require him to abandon the style that made him influential in the first place. Champion has taken familiar parts of its own history sweatshirts, varsity references, athletic silhouettes and Americana and filtered them through V’s preference for vintage objects, music and relaxed dressing.

That is probably why the early fan response feels so enthusiastic. It does not look like a celebrity was simply placed beside a logo. It looks like someone at Champion understood why people pay attention to Kim Taehyung’s clothes in the first place.

And for ARMY, that may be the most exciting part of the partnership: Champion did not turn V into its image. It allowed V’s image to reshape Champion.
