AKMU is officially parting ways with YG Entertainment after 12 years. The label announced on November 21 that the siblings Lee Chan Hyuk and Lee Su Hyun have decided to step into a new chapter following long and thoughtful discussion.

YG shared that approximately six months ago, the duo met with Executive Producer Yang Hyun-suk for a private dinner. During the meeting, they openly reflected on their journey — from their breakout on ‘K-pop Star Season 2’ in 2012 to their rise as one of Korea’s most influential singer-songwriter duos. According to the agency, AKMU’s biggest concern was a single question:Should they continue the partnership they’ve had for 12 years, or pursue new challenges outside the label?

YG stated that during the conversation, Yang Hyun-suk encouraged the members to consider branching out. “He told them that exploring music in a new environment could be a valuable experience,” the company revealed.

The mutual respect built over a decade was evident throughout the process.
